The arts
The aims of arts education in our curriculum is to help children develop an understanding of and sensitivity to the arts and to become aware of the value of the arts in their own lives and in the lives of others.
Arts education is a necessary part of a balanced, inclusive curriculum. Related, relevant learning experiences develop in young people, aesthetic awareness and the abilities necessary for aesthetic expression. They should be provided with the opportunity to learn about the arts, themselves and the world.
Arts education should:
- enable children to develop understanding and skills necessary for responding and participating in the arts;
- focus on the development of aesthetic values central to the appreciation of the arts;
- introduce children to, and develop their appreciation of, Australia's diverse culture;
- allow for the development of each child's individuality;
- promote an attitude of lifelong development of who they are and their potential.
