Calm room
The Calm Room is an integral part of the school's Behaviour Management plan.
Operating daily, the Calm room provides a place for teachers to send children who are disruptive during school time and during lunch breaks.
Functions of the Calm Room
- Time out is provided for students who have made inappropriate choices about behaviour either in class or in the playground.
- Re entry of students when they are ready to join class activities.
- Social skills lessons are conducted between students when recommended by teachers through administration.
- Mediation sessions are conducted between students when recommended by teachers through administration.
- Individual students can receive monitoring and or support in order to improve their behaviour and support them emotionally and socially.
- Students who find difficulty interacting in the playground may use the CALM room and related "games room" for "Time out" activities.
- Tracking and recording of strikes/and behaviour is carried out by the CALM room personnel.
- Individual Management Plans for students with behaviour difficulties are written in conjunction with the child's teacher, Administration and Calm room personnel.
- CALM room personnel to liaise with GO and the Cluster Behaviour Management Support personnel.
- CALM room personnel to advise Relief teachers about Behaviour Management procedures.
- CALM room personnel to oversee the role of the Leadership Team.
- Welcome and induction of new students to the school.
