History

Moreton Downs State School was a $4M project which commenced in 1994. It opened its doors for the first enrolments on 16 January 1995, and was officially opened in October by Ken Hayward MLA, Minister for Business, Industry and Regional Development.

Originally, the school had 4 General Learning Areas (GLA's), Library, Administration Block, one-unit Preschool and a Tuck Shop.

The school consisted of a principal, 13 class teachers, 1 pre school teacher, 1 librarian, 1 special needs teacher, 2 admin staff, 2 aides, 3 cleaning staff and a janitor groundsman. By the end of the first year the student enrolments reached 278.

After five years, the buildings had swelled to 6 GLA's and 5 demountables consisting in total, 32 classrooms. All the main buildings are connected by covered walkways and are surrounded by landscaped gardens. Staff numbers have increased to a Principal, 2 Deputies and 26 Classroom teachers with additional Special Needs staff for P.E., Lote, Music, Reading Recovery, Technology, Learning Support and Guidance.

The establishment of a computer lab and CALM room (Controlled And Learned Management) proved to be a great asset to the progress of the students. Extra play space and sports facilities are continually being added providing a positive environment for learning and development.
